We live in a country, dare i say, where prayer is our security system.
You pray that the doctors are good enough.
You pray you don’t get robbed.
You pray that your education is good enough.
You pray that parliament and the presidency do their job.
You pray for Neo-colonialism to end.
You pray that you don’t fall sick.
You pray that when the rain falls, electricity doesn’t go.
You pray the rainfall is sufficient for your crops to grow.
On the other side of everything, you’re praying for is a system that is hellbent on stealing every single shilling so that they can live a comfortable life. You, the person who prays is collateral to the system that steals. So far, prayer has worked for some but not for others. Money helps too. Having some money will get you out of the sticky situations; with the cops, with the judge, with your health, in your marriage.
Inheriting money only means that if your children pray and it doesn’t work out, their parent is protecting them through the sacrifices that you made.
But when they are young, they do not understand. They want money . . . NOW.
Their energy, their ideas, their fire for life and their desire to change the world and be a hero is still alive in them. With their ideas, they can birth a new world.
They make your own flame bigger and brighter but sadly, you no longer have a fearless heart like they do. Life has knocked you down a couple of times and each time, it gets harder and harder to get back, and spring back up like you used to.
In your golden years, you keep going and hope that they appreciate the sacrifices that you made for them out of love.
And once more, you turn to your security system and pray that they will be safe, that they will keep healthy, that they will listen to good counsel and that they will remember the security system that kept you safe all along.
